Southern California Sports

A Little Introduction

Welcome to SoCal Sports Hub, your home for a fresh, objective focus on Southern California’s best. We’re a brand-new site, so before going any further, I figured it would be best to keep it simple by introducing myself and try to keep it as short as possible. (If you do want a quick overview, you can check it out here.)

My name is Sunit Bhakta, and I have had an absolute passion for sports (playing and watching) since I was a kid. Yeah, I know, that sounds a bit cliche, but honestly, there’s no other way to put it.

If you were to ask my friends and family the first two things that come to mind about me, they’d most likely say, in either order, “sports” and “Batman.”

Once I started college, my goal was to have a career in the sports industry in any shape or form, but it wasn’t until the end of my sophomore year when writing about it became a thought. I always loved playing and reading about baseball, basketball, football, soccer, golf, and cricket, so I thought, why not give it a shot?

I got my first opportunity with isportsweb.com during the summer of 2016, and in the three years since, I have collected a wealth of experience, including writing for three other publications (FanSided, iConcept Media, and Zip Poll USA), with my highest-ranking position being a Lead Expert at FanSided’s Dodgers Way site.

And along the way, I’ve been lucky enough to have a handful of articles repurposed for Bleacher Report’s use. (A portfolio of my works can be found at https://www.clippings.me/sunitbhakta.)

However, the end of my latest position brought a temporary halt to my writing. But with a push from my parents, I thought starting my own blog/site would be an exciting challenge and a better path to go down because it would once again allow for creative freedom on top of a platform to write off.

With a handful of quality websites and blogs out there already, honing onto one particular niche was the key. But, because I’m an avid follower of all the major sports leagues, it was tough to settle on one.

Ultimately, I decided to embrace my Southern California roots and focus on the baseball, basketball, and football teams down here, meaning the Angels, Chargers, Clippers, Dodgers, Lakers, Padres, and Rams.

I wanted to offer another perspective (one more numbers-heavy) on these teams, analyzing the “knowns” while covering the lesser-known topics that the mainstream media may not, with a significant focus on objectivity.

As fans, we naturally have a bias towards our teams and their players, which can blind us from seeing the bigger picture at times, even leading us to believe that others may be “hating” if they don’t share the same sentiments as us. But that’s no knock; it’s normal. Heck, I’ve been guilty of it before.

We all love our narratives, but I’ve learned that unbiased analysis in context is always the best because it gives you the clearest picture of what is.

Thus, here at SoCal Sports Hub, we aim to keep you updated on Southern California’s best sporting franchises while striving for the ultimate objectivity- giving praise when due, while also providing the deserved criticisms- in the most enjoyable way possible. Oh, and comments are always welcomed.
